What one thing stands out to you in the scriptures?
One of the many themes that stands out to me from the scripture is the theme of Inter-generational faith. When God first created man, His first words to him were “To multiply and fill the earth”. In these first words, God’s purpose to mankind is revealed – He expected man to raise and affect generations. Later, in the story of Abraham – an old, childless and barren man, God calls him and says He won’t just make Abraham a family man (which would have been enough of a miracle), but a nation to reckon with. God gives Abraham influence in many areas: military advantage; wealth; even technological wisdom (he dug water wells and probably oil wells) and with these he gains political affluence. But God reveals that the main reason for these exploits and miracles was for Abraham’s faith in God to grow and passed on to his sons after him. In Genesis 18:19, God says: “I have singled him out so that he will direct his sons and their families to keep the way of the LORD by doing what is right and just”. (New Living Translation).
I could go on with many other bible heroes, but the point is that intergenerational faith is oneof the main themes I see in the scriptures.
Faith of Our Fathers - Building Legacy
So what is the Faith of Our Fathers blog about? This brings me to one interesting aspect of the Christian faith: it both personal and shared! The more personal your experiences and exploits of faith, the more that faith must beshared! Shared to our current generation and to the next. And this is the purpose for this blog! It is to share specific tenets of Christian faith I desire tosee my generation carry. It is also to share real life stories of people who are putting faith into practice. Stories of men and women, who have walked with God. What lessons of faith has God taught them? What are their testimonies? Their lessons? Their convictions? Their caution to us? Their cries and prayers? Their joys and celebrations? What direction do they sense the Holy Spirit is building within them? Hearing stories of faith builds in us expectation and capacity to carry a growing faith.
